Although the volcano has quieted since 2010, it still maintains its active status. While pyroclastic flows have ceased and the crater has receded, fumarolic activity persists beneath the collapsed crater. While this allows for safer access to certain areas, it's crucial to remain vigilant due to the potential for phreatic explosions.

For your safety, heed the advice of experts: avoid venturing too close to the crater. Despite claims of accessibility, hiking to the summit poses significant risks, as demonstrated by past tragedies elsewhere. Instead, indulge in safer alternatives such as guided hikes along designated trails or immersive geologic history tours. The National Park, Arenal 1968 and El Silencio offer excellent trails to explore the volcano in a safe way.
